This was established in
1994.
Objectives of the faculty:
-
To orient
research and scientific studies to link the scientific
research to practical results in agricultural
production.
-
To train
students at a university level and post-graduate level
in the area of agricultural production with the
objective of finding methods of ideal exploitation of
existing available natural resources, how to develop and
maintain these resources and to take care of the
environment.
-
To provide
consultants for local and national policy
implementation.
-
To interact with
the community and activate the social and cultural life
of the area through the organization of lectures,
symposiums and public exhibitions.
System of study:
The academic year is
divided into two semesters.
The average period of
study to acquire a B.Sc. with honors is five years (10
academic semesters).
The study is divided in
two stages:
A)
Pre-specialization is three compulsory years (6
semesters).
B)
Specialization
is a 2-year period (4 semesters) during which time the
student specializes in one of the options available.
The student must pass
examinations and complete the necessary time
requirements (at least 180 hours) to graduate from the
faculty and obtain a B.SC honors in Agricultural
Sciences.
Departments:
The departments were
established as per the developmental needs of the
University by the recommendations from the Council of
the Faculty and approved by the University Council of
Teachers.
The departments are:
1- Department of Agronomy
2- Department of Food
Technology ..
3-Department of Botany .
4- Department of animal
production .
5-Department of technical
agriculture
1-
Department of
Agricultural Extension
2-
Department of
Agricultural Engineering
3-
Department of
Horticulture .
4-
Department of
Social Studies .
The teaching staff
including teaching assistants and technicians are:
6 – Ph.D. holders
22 – master degree holders
9- B.SC holders
3- Diploma holders
There
are about 302 students. There are about 125 graduates
from three batches in various specialization
(Agricultural Engineering, Crop Production and Animal
Production).
Characteristics of the
graduates:
The faculty has the
following aims for their students:
- To be conversant in
agricultural production and the main body of natural
resource management through modern methods.
- Capacious enough to
apply scientific theories in real practical environments
and to deduce solutions to possible problems in the
process.
- To be able to work
competently at a practical level in farming.
- Competent enough to
develop themselves in the area of sciences, knowledge
and in their interactions with others.
The
Future Vision of the Faculty
The
Agriculture Faculty has plans to bring concepts and
knowledge of agricultural production back to a
grassroots level. A large amount of research will be
done on existing production models with the aim of
introducing substantial modifications in the production
pattern.
